ALL Teachers...We Celebrate You!
Recently, while in a fourth grade classroom I observed on the teacher's desk a plaque that displayed words so profound regarding teachers' influence on students. I momentarily stopped in my tracks - responding openly, saying YESSSSS! I suppose the children were curious as to what I was saying yes to. The words on the plaque referenced teachers helping students to expand their view of the world looking through mirrors to - viewing it from a window. Definitely true...teachers have the ability, patience and skills to motivate students to want to do more. To learn more and see the world's big picture. First, by helping students recognize their self worth, capabilities, as well as explore personal interest. Teachers encourage students to work hard and smart. Moreover, educators champion students to embrace having an open-mind, as well as be good citizens, set goals, and strive to make a difference in the world. Great teachers guide children in celebrating their growth...achievements in the learning process. Even assisting students to not faint or be so discouraged whenever they make mistakes, but to learn from them and keep it moving! Awesome teachers are involved with helping students hone their special skills in areas of individual interest. Thus, teachers aid students in the crafting of skills in ways that are meaningful, appropriate and reflective of the student's interest. It is also true that teachers help children learn, by seeing themselves in others and relating. While doing so...learning empathy, and recognizing similar, comparable skills. Instead of viewing the world from a "mirror" standpoint only, which advantages "self" - it is possible for children to anticipate more. Student's curiosity arises making room for new ideas and expansion of possibilities. Now, gateways greater perspective of thought and clarity, while presenting a wider more diverse view...through the proverbial window.
During the month of May, teachers are being celebrated! Teachers are soooo valuable to not only students, but to the entire workforce in every industry. Families, communities...the world benefits from the knowledge, information provided, creativity, modeling and preparedness teachers bring to society's table. You can celebrate teachers ANYTIME! Trust me...it will be greatly appreciated! However, this year 2018, the Month of May is set aside to show teachers we CARE about their hard work, special efforts and time spent preparing relevant learning activities for students; Their diligence and valuable contributions. Here are some ways to show teachers appreciation:
- Parent-Teachers Club do week long special activities such as provide theme-based luncheon, include give-away incentives, gift baskets etc.
- Businesses donate to teachers some yummy favorites...food, give special gifts, groupons, offer discounts
- Homemade treasures from students
- Flowers brought in to give to teachers
- Movie night for teachers
- Thank you cards are appreciated & work well!
- Parents volunteer in the classroom
- Provide delicious "Soothie Smoothies" to enjoy.
- Create a "Hall of Fame" - Creatively display teachers' photos in the main school hall-way.
- Invite a musician to play for educators during lunch breaks. The BEST way to help celebrate teachers is to...JUST START!!!
